Developments at what cost?

Where are we heading towards? What are we doing to our planet?Development at the cost of our nature? Is this what we should be doing?

Urbanization, rapid pace of industrialization, technological boom, economic growth, mass transportation etc. is all that we have earned through destroying our mother earth. Gone are those days when we could hear the sparrows chirping early in the morning, now we have conveniently added to the list of endangered species. What an achievement! Rumors are agog predicting the end of the world; which is often referred to as the "Dooms Day" debate. According to reliable sources many philosophers and scientist say that the world would come to an end by 2012. At this rate of advancement, regardless of what philosophers have told we humans would disintegrate the globe ourselves. We have killed so many trees and converted forests into concrete jungles and sprawling complexes, but now when we look back on our evolution all I can see is self-destruction. Deforestation is a major reason for global warming. We do not have enough trees too produce oxygen for us to live, our carbon emissions have increased way too far because of increase in pollution. We are not bothered about degrading our soil by using plastics, neither are we worried about conserving our precious natural resources.
Hat's-off to government of Rajasthan who enacted a law prohibiting usage of plastic materials in their state which is likely to be implemented vigorously. It is a shame that, despite such a law being in force in our state of TamilNadu since 2002 is nearly in paper and it is yet to be implemented in 'letter and in spirit'.
Ok fine. All said and done let us contribute our might in preserving our green earth by planting a few trees in our neighborhood. Already I am at it.
